Create and Edit Trips

Create a Trip

Tenant admins can create trips from Tenant Admin -> Delivery Management -> Trips -> Create. Dispatchers can create trips from Dispatcher -> Trips -> Create.

Trip create form

The create form defines the operational plan:

  • Select the trip type: multi pickup, multi dropoff, or mixed.
  • Select a driver when the trip is ready to be assigned.
  • Review the linked vehicle when a driver is selected.
  • Add notes for dispatch context.
  • Add eligible deliveries and order them in the expected execution sequence.

Drivers are expected to have an active vehicle assignment before being selected for a trip. If the driver does not have a usable vehicle, correct the driver or vehicle setup first.

Add Deliveries

During trip creation, select eligible deliveries and save them with their sequence. The sequence controls the planned order shown in the trip detail and driver execution context.

Use the delivery picker to:

  • Search available deliveries.
  • Add deliveries that belong on the trip.
  • Review the selected delivery list.
  • Arrange the sequence before saving.

The system stores the selected deliveries on the trip with trip_id and trip_sequence values so the trip can be rendered as a planned stop list.

Edit a Planned Trip

Open a planned trip and select Edit to update trip metadata such as trip type, driver, vehicle context, or notes. Planned trips are the safest status for edits because work has not started yet.

If the actual work has changed, review both the trip metadata and the delivery list before execution begins. Do not use edits to rewrite history after a driver has already acted on the deliveries.

Manage Deliveries From the Detail Page

The trip detail page also allows planned trip delivery changes. While the trip is planned, operations can add deliveries, remove deliveries, and reorder the selected deliveries.

Trip detail stops and delivery management

Use this when the trip already exists and dispatchers need to adjust the stop list before the driver starts.

Reordering Deliveries

Reordering changes the trip sequence, not the delivery records themselves. The same deliveries remain on the trip, but their planned execution order changes.

Before saving a new order, check:

  • Driver availability and working hours.
  • Pickup and dropoff windows.
  • Warehouse handoff timing.
  • Any high-priority delivery that should be moved earlier.
  • Whether the trip type still describes the stop plan.

Cancellation

Cancel a trip when the planned work should not happen. Cancellation is intended before execution. If deliveries have already moved into active statuses, manage the delivery outcomes and review the resulting trip status instead.

info

Create trips after deliveries are ready for driver planning, but before driver execution starts. That gives operations the most flexibility for sequencing and correction.
